Who We Are
We are graduates of the prestigious Popular Music program (songwriting emphasis) at the USC Thornton School of Music. We are working musicians looking to bring creativity back into the way we learn music. Through the lens of songwriting, we can get inside the material and gain deeper musical understanding that will ultimately translate into more intuitive playing and greater all-around musicianship.
Why Songwriting?
Because every great musician, be it Chopin or Hendrix or even the casual shower singer, is drawn to music for the same reason -- the song. Using the frameworks of composition (music theory, song form, arranging, musicality), students will be able to analyze their favorite songs and gain insight into the creative process of writing their own pieces.
What if I don't want to write songs? (or don't know how to....?)
Lessons are tailored to each student's interests and skill-level -- you don't HAVE to write songs! We will, however, use songwriting structures in the context of understanding the music that students study. (We promise it’ll be fun!)
